Be warned: this is a bit of a spoiler of Extras.
This is a scene from one of the very few sitcoms I really enjoyed. I hope it makes enough sense to people who haven't watched the series which was brilliant all-round. I think this is the pinnacle of that brilliance.
I recommend watching it full screen and in high quality.
Frame-by-frame, shot-by-shot, from the music to the humor to the monologue of the ages to the tears, this is truly wonderful art. Gervais' acting in and of itself was stunning; he took my breath away. Primarily a comedian, Ricky Gervais displays an expert talent of infusing a character with life.
I don't know from whose brain this particular scene came from, but it's simply perfect. I am in total awe of this masterpiece. Not only is it humorous, but it's also poignant, beautiful, meaningful, intelligent and clever all at once. It's incredibly mind-blowing on multiple levels, from the shallow to the deep end.
This is perhaps the #1 television moment in my book. Bravo!

P.S. His Loving Beauty part 2 should be up soon.
